School Uniform Policy

School Uniform Policy

Mayall Academy requests that all students wear the school uniform.  A school uniform helps promote pride and professionalism and reminds us all that our primary focus is on academics.  The quality of work students produce at school is affected by their personal appearance.

Under the policy, students are required to wear navy blue or dark green shirts and jeans or khaki pants, skirts, or shorts and tennis shoes to school every day unless they have a signed parent waiver(see attached) on file in the office.  Students may wear the Mayall Academy Logowear.

All students, including those students with a waiver form on file, must follow the dress code.

Students who do not wear a uniform must have a waiver signed by a parent on file in the office.   However, please consider:

  • Uniforms make the choice of what children wear faster and easier
  • They can be less expensive
  • Students look neat and well dressed.
  • Research shows children wearing uniforms focus more on academics and good behavior.

We recommend that you purchase(available in the main office) at least one logo uniform for your child for class field trips and special activities so they don’t feel excluded.

STUDENT DRESS CODE

Students will dress with reasonable standards of cleanliness and modesty.  Clothing, hats, and hair styles are to be worn that will not draw the undue attention of peers or be distracting to class instruction. Students are expected to be in dress code everyday unless otherwise specified.

Every Friday is free dress day. Students may wear any color clothing as long as they follow the below dress codes:

  1. Students are not to wear sandals.  Only closed shoes are permitted.
  2. The following items of clothing are NOT permitted: Clogs, halter tops, bare midriffs, spaghetti straps, tube tops, net tops, crop tops, no backless or strapless attire, hip huggers, “hipsters” or below the waist jeans, tops that have explicit, suggestive or derogatory/inflammatory phrases or graphics.
  3.  Extremely short skirts or short shorts are not permitted.  Shorts and skirts need to be appropriate for school and not permitted according to our discipline plan.  Please review the following guidelines with your child.
  4. No low ride pants.
  5. No hoop or dangling earrings.
  6. Students are allowed to wear sun-protective clothing, including but not limited to hats, for outdoor use during the school day.

If your child comes to school dressed inappropriately, we will contact you by phone and request that you bring a change of clothes for your child.  If you are unavailable, we will provide the student (only if available) with a t-shirt that needs to be washed and returned the next day.  Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.
