March 30, 2020

Dear Mustang Families,

This is Linda Kim, principal of Mayall Academy. I have several messages coming to you by phone and email.

We hope you and your family stay safe and healthy! We are now starting the 3rd week of At-Home-Learning model at Mayall Academy and LAUSD.  As you know, this will be our mode of education until at least May 1st.

School will be closed on Friday, 4/3 for Unassigned Day and 4/6-10 for Spring Break. Teachers will not be available to answer any questions during these days. At-Home-Learning will resume on Monday, 4/13.

Teachers have given assignments in every class. The administrative staff is working with teachers to identify students that have not checked in or submitted work.
Please talk with your student to make sure they are checking in their assignments and turning in work on time. It is important that students and parents understand that these assignments will be receiving grades and we want to make sure that students do not fall far behind.

Another thing to remember is that we will be using a lot of technology to learn, communicate and discover with your child’s teacher and peers. Students need to remember that just as we do in the classroom we must use technology appropriately and respectfully. Make thoughtful and kind choices. Inappropriate use and unkind communications will not be tolerated in any way. This is our new “classroom” and behavior expectations have not changed.

We want to thank our parents for supporting children at home in their busy schedule. It is a challenging time that we all are facing but we will get through this together.

Thank you and stay well!

Updated March 13, 2020

Hello Mustang Families,

As always, the safety and security of our students remain my top priority.  As Superintendent Beutner shared this morning, our school will be closed as of Monday, March 16, for a period of at least 2 weeks. In our ongoing efforts to maintain instructional continuity, we sent resources home with your child yesterday.

Our expectation of students is to complete all assignments to count toward their grades as determined by their teacher.  Teachers will be available through the communication tool that you have been using to answer parent/student questions during their working hours.

Although this isn't the most ideal situation for learning, it can be very productive if time is set each day for schooling to happen at home.  Please remind your child of the importance of completing their work at home and to practice the healthy precautionary behaviors recommended by the health officials so that we are all healthy when we return.

Please check the LAUSD website regularly for the latest updates.

Thank you for your continued support, adaptability, and understanding as we work as a community to keep our entire community safe.  We wish you and your loved ones good health.

Sincerely,

Linda Kim

Principal
