October 14 to 18, 2019

Dear Mustang Families,

This is Linda Kim, principal of Mayall Academy. I have 5 messages coming to you by phone and email.

Mayall Magnet Tours are scheduled on Monday, 10/14 and 10/18 at 8:30am. Please share these dates with any prospective families who are interested in Mayall Academy.

Our 5th Family Read parent workshop will be held on Tuesday, 10/15. Please come and learn about how you can support your children with reading at home. We need a minimum of 15 parents to continue the program.

We are conducting the CA Shake-Out drill on Thursday, 10/17 from 8:30am to 9:00am. Please note that parents will not be able to enter the school during the drill since all gates will be locked. Also, please send the comfort kit with your children to school so that they have supplies they need in case of a real emergency.

Please don’t forget to turn in your PTA membership and participate in the PTA Fall Catalog Fundraiser to support our students.

It is our 1st grade parents’ turn to help us with the morning valet program for the next two weeks. Please help our students get dropped off safely.

Please visit our school website at MAYALLSTES.LAUSD.NET for more information.

Thank you and have a wonderful week.

Safty Update

Good morning. This is Linda Kim, School Principal at Mayall Academy with an important update regarding the Saddleridge Fire cleanup. Our thoughts go out to everyone who was affected by the fire.

At schools in the San Fernando Valley, maintenance crews worked over the weekend cleaning our schools and are returning this morning to provide additional cleaning support to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Shifting winds may also bring smoke into our community, and we are providing masks for students and staff who request them.

The current air quality seems to be improving quickly. At this time, we do not smell smoke outside at all. However, we will still implement Shelter-In-Place for a precautionary measure. Students will be eating lunch in the lunch pavilion and then stay in the auditorium until their teachers pick them up.

Just to give you an update, filters in the ventilation system were replaced over the weekend, and we are running air-conditioners in classrooms to filter residual smoke if necessary. We are also limiting outdoor activities, as needed, this week. If you would like to pick up your child before regular dismissal today, please come to the main office and bring your ID. Absences today will be reported as absent but excused. Los Angeles Unified will continue to work with our public-safety partners in monitoring fire and air-quality conditions and will take appropriate actions based on the most current information provided to us. Thank you for your continued understanding and support.

Our Community Support:

A huge "Thank You" to our school sponsors...Mitchell Englander, Dunn Edwards, Target, and Ralphs...for your continued support of
